The Red Bellied Black Snake predominantly feeds on amphibians. 90 percent of their diet happens to be frogs which is why most encounters with this species are around creeks, dams, lagoons, etc.

They are cannibalistic and do feed on other species of reptiles including Eastern Brown Snakes. Remarkably, there has not been a recorded death since 1804 from this species. It is perhaps one of the most respected venomous snakes due to this point as well as its placid temperament when compared to other species of venomous snakes.
